Your career shouldn’t feel like your first college internship. It is unacceptable to be worked to the bone without proper compensation. It can be challenging when you are new to the job and you want to ‘impress’ upper management. You may think that doing more work than you are required without proper pay may get you to the next level, but that is rarely the case. Doing upper level work at an entry level salary will just keep you at an entry level salary. Know your worth. Especially as women, we tend to earn less than men to begin with. A 2016 study done by IWPR (Institute For Women’s Policy Research) found that women were making 80.5% of what their male counterparts earned. We cannot be afraid to ask for what we deserve.
