Dinegar says the Council has jumped ahead of study funded by the federal Department of Labor on various paid-leave proposals. That study, conducted by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, has been turned over to the D.C. Department of Employment Services, but a spokeswoman says it is not yet complete.
The report prices out various proposals for paid leave, though not the one introduced by Grosso and Silverman. Grosso’s office did an initial round of modeling on the bill, and determined that on average some 5,500 leave requests would be made per year, costing close to $12,000 per request. The modeling found that if the total cost was spread evenly among all covered workers, the average per employee would be $560.
