Washington, DC—A new analysis released today by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) examines the impact of the Great Recession on the savings and assets of single Baby Boomers as they approached retirement age and finds that single White male Boomers owned $109,000 in net assets in 2012, much more than single White female Boomers ($99,800), single men of color ($25,100), and single women of color ($12,185). The analysis uses pre- and post-Recession data from the University of Michigan’s Health and Retirement Study to focus on early Baby Boomers who reached age 62—Social Security eligibility age—between 2010 and 2015.
