The Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) Applauds White House Gender Policy Council’s Release of Historic, Bold New National Strategy to Advance Gender Equity in the U.S.

Washington, D.C. — IWPR applauds the Biden administration’s Gender Policy Council on its release today of a historic gender equity strategy that will cut across federal agencies and work to improve the well-being of women and girls on key indicators in the U.S.—health, economic, and safety, among them.

Globally, the U.S. lags behind other developed nations on issues such as child care, pay and economic equity for women, and political and civic participation. According to the World Economic Forum, the U.S. is ranked 30th on the global gender gap index.

IWPR’s Status of Women in the States report underscores the urgency of the Gender Policy Council’s strategies and recommendations and provides a deft understanding of the role geography plays in shaping women and girl’s access to opportunity, and their safety, health, and economic security in the U.S.

“As the nation grapples with how best to recover from an economic downturn that has disproportionately impacted women, the Gender Policy Council’s release of its strategy is timely. It signals that the Administration is serious about its commitment to building a society where women and girls can reach their full potential and eliminating the barriers that prevent them from doing so,” said C. Nicole Mason, President and CEO, Institute for Women’s Policy Research.

“We’re also excited and stand ready to work in partnership with the White House to develop the key metrics and benchmarks necessary for the successful real-world implementation of this sweeping plan.”
