“We will not back down.”
Statement from Dr. Jamila K. Taylor, President and CEO of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), on the 2024 Election Results
“Like so many others in our community and across the country, we are devastated and alarmed by last night’s election results. The implications for women, families, and marginalized communities are profound.
“We remember all too well the chaos and corruption that defined the first Trump administration. In his previous term, Donald Trump aggressively and systemically worked to strip women of long-held freedoms. From rolling back reproductive rights to undermining access to quality health care, the damage was widespread and devastating. Now, we can expect a new era of extreme attacks on women’s autonomy, health, and well-being over the next four years.
“We are particularly saddened that crucial opportunities to make progress on issues that directly impact women and families will be missed yet again. We need leadership that advances pay equity, implements paid family and medical leave, and strengthens caregiving support. These are the issues that will truly uplift women and working families, and they should not be neglected. But if Trump’s first term is any guide, they will be.
“But let me be clear: IWPR stands ready to fight. We have been here before. We have fought and won these battles before. We will continue to stand strong and defend the health and economic well-being of women against the onslaught of attacks we expect from a new Trump administration. Our work is more critical than ever, and we will not back down.”
The Institute for Women’s Policy Research strives to win economic equity for all women and eliminate barriers to their full participation in society.
