Dr. Jamila K. Taylor, president and CEO of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, on the Trump administration and the recent national events. This statement was issued on January 27, 2026.

The Trump administration’s anti-democratic policies have resulted in the tragic killings of Renee Good, Keith Porter, Jr., and Alex Pretti, among others, at the hands of federal agents in recent months. And the detainment of children, such as five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos, as well as the forceful separation of families, is abhorrent.

This continued abuse of power further reveals the inhumane nature of those serving in this administration. Their actions endanger the lives of countless individuals and threaten the bedrock of our democratic systems, while unleashing an environment of chaos—one that has undermined families’ ability to provide a safe and stable life.

At the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, we stand with the people of Minnesota and communities across the country who continue to be impacted by the actions of the Trump administration and his allies in Congress.
