New #JobsDay data show a return to growth, with women gaining 304,000 jobs, the majority 57.3 %, of 531,000 jobs added to payroll. This displays strong growth for women in Business and Professional Services, Leisure and Hospitality, Education, Health Services, and Retail. But another month of job losses for women in government.
#Payroll jobs continue their climb back but women’s job growth continues to lag behind men compared to pre-pandemic. (See Figure below.)
New data shows an increase in the rate of unemployment for adult women from 4.2 to 4.4 percent, while men’s unemployment fell from 4.7 to 4.3%. Unemployment increased most strongly for adult Asian women (unadjusted) from 3.4 to 4.4%, for White women from 3.7 to 3.9%, and for Latinas from 5.6% to 5.7%. Unemployment marginally fell for Black women, from 7.3 to 7.0%. Black women’s rate of unemployment is still almost twice as high as White women’s. While unemployment increased for Black men (from 8.0 to 8.3%), it strongly fell for White (4.2 to 3.6%), Latino (6.0 to 5.2%) and Asian (4.6 to 3.6%) men., Latino, and Asian men saw large declines in unemployment.
