The Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to its board of directors, William M. Rodgers III and Martha Darling. William M. Rodgers III is an expert in labor economics who has served as chief economist with the Department of Labor. Martha Darling will be rejoining the board of IWPR. She formerly served in the federal government and with the Boeing Company. Darling is now active in Michigan and nationally working with various nonprofit associations.

William M. Rodgers III



is Professor of Public Policy and chief economist at the Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University, with an expertise in the economics of social problems. At the start of President Barack Obama’s first term, Rodgers served on the Labor Department’s Transition Team. Previously, Rodgers also served as the Labor Secretary Alexis Herman’s chief economist from 2000–2001. Rodgers was elected to the National Academy of Social Insurance in 2006 and serves as Vice President. Rodgers is a member of United Way Worldwide’s U.S. Board of Trustees.


Martha Darling

was at the Boeing Company for 12 years serving in a number of policy and civic affairs roles. As a White House fellow, Darling served as executive assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury and as a senior legislative assistant to former Senator Bill Bradley. Currently, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Darling is actively involved in a number of civic and artistic organizations. She serves on the President’s Advisory Council of the National Wildlife Federation and is a founding co-chair of Washtenaw Success by 6, a community collaborative working to ensure all young children in the region start school ready to succeed.
