Rachael Tessema
Rachael Tessema is a Research Assistant at the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, where she supports projects within the Reproductive Justice and Health Equity pillar. Her work advances evidence-based research and policy solutions to improve women’s health, reproductive rights, and maternal well-being.
Before joining IWPR, Rachael earned her Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health from Tulane University and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Virginia. She has contributed to public health research and programs in Ethiopia, Peru, and Louisiana, focusing on women’s health equity, maternal and child health, and translating research into action.
Rachael’s global perspective is shaped by her experiences growing up between Ethiopia and the United States, inspiring her commitment to advancing equitable health outcomes for women and families. Outside of work, she enjoys staying active, playing soccer, and exploring D.C.’s food and art scenes.
