IWPR Celebrates Release of Title IX Rule

Washington, DC — The Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) today released the following statement in response to the Biden Administration’s final regulatory action on Title IX:

“The Institute for Women’s Policy Research celebrates the finalization of critical updates by the Department of Education to the regulations used to interpret and enforce Title IX. These regulations provide essential civil rights protections for students across the country, helping them to learn, study, and engage in school activities without facing discrimination and harassment. Today’s final rule rolls back the harmful regulations put in place under the Trump Administration and improves protections for survivors of violence and harassment, LGBTQI+ students, and pregnant and parenting students.

We look forward to continuing to work with our partners in the US government and the research and advocacy communities to promote gender equity and justice in education. As part of that effort, we continue to urge the Biden Administration to finalize regulations pertaining to participation in athletics, ensuring that Title IX’s protections are enforced for all students, including transgender, nonbinary, and intersex student-athletes.”

The Institute for Women’s Policy Research strives to win economic equity for all women and eliminate barriers to their full participation in society. As a leading national think tank, IWPR builds evidence to shape policies that grow women’s power and influence, close inequality gaps, and improve the economic well-being of families.
