Oklahoma currently has an equal pay statute on the books. Even with this law, however, the Institute of Women’s Policy Research projects that women in Oklahoma will not receive pay parity until 2068.
It is clear that, despite making wage discrimination illegal in 1964, the original enforcement mechanism of this statute was extremely weak. While this statute made it a criminal offense for an employer to violate the law, the maximum fine is only $100 per employee. This law also does not yield any protections for workers bringing pay
discrimination suits in the workplace.
