It led me to ponder structural inequity, and how to explain to them that women are almost half of the workforce, receive more college and graduate degrees than men, and yet still continue to earn considerably less.
In 2017, full-time, year-round working women made only 80.5 cents for every dollar earned by men, according to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.
For women of color, the gap is even wider. According to the institute, strengthening equal opportunity employment policies and Title IX in education is crucial to narrowing that gap.
