  • Patricia Arquette Predicts Gender Pay Gap Won’t Close Until 2058

    Mar 19, 2015

Patricia Arquette appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman” Tuesday to discuss pay equality, the topic she raised during her acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars last month.

“There is legislation in place. It’s supposed to be fair pay legislation, but clearly women aren’t being paid fairly,” she said. “It’s going to take at this rate, the rate it’s been closing since the 1960s, it’s going to take till 2058. So that’s a whole other generation of women who don’t see that money in their retirement or their Social Security.”

According to the  Institute for Women’s Policy Research , women have gone from earning about 60 percent of what men did in the ’60s to just below 80 percent today. The group estimates the pay gap will close in 2058.
