The new regulations likely won’t faze businesses that already offer sick time or paid-time off benefits for employees. But the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, which relied on U.S. census data, estimates that about 300,000 workers don’t have paid sick leave. The study concluded that number disproportionately affects people of color and low-income workers — two populations unlikely to work for an employer that offered sick leave.
