“According to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, if employed women in Pennsylvania were paid the same as comparable men, their poverty rate would be reduced by more than half (from 7.3 percent to estimated 3.6 percent) and poverty among single mothers would also drop by more than half (from 27.8 percent to estimated 11.1 percent),” Beveridge said. “If society wants working mothers to climb out of poverty, it should reinforce, not remove the rungs on the ladder.”
