David Castro (He/His) is the Senior Data Analyst. David’s role at IWPR consists in leading the organization to produce insights based on data, visualizations, and credible evidence that help impact public policy.

Prior to joining IWPR, David had a trajectory of working at the intersection of data, social policy, and management. During his professional experience, he has been strengthening social programs that deliver essential services to vulnerable populations in organizations such as the United Nations-FAO, Bogota’s Aqueduct Company, San Diego County, or the University of California, San Diego.

During the last two years, David had the opportunity to complete his Master of Arts in Public Policy at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). During his research at UCSD, David used GIS data and economic research to produce an electrification plan with the potential of increasing female employment and access to clean energy sources. Also, David’s policy capstone studied the econometric impact of evictions on gun violence in NYC using open source data.

In addition to his master’s degree, David is an Industrial Engineer with an additional Bachelor of Arts in Finance & International Commerce from the Universidad Sergio Arboleda. While not working, David enjoys writing opinion columns for Colombia’s main newspapers, playing chess, and dancing salsa.
