POSITION OVERVIEW

IWPR seeks an Associate Director, Human Capital Management and Operations to set the vision and lead the execution of IWPR’s human resource function while spearheading innovative human resource initiatives that drive equitable outcomes for all staff members. Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the Associate Director, Human Capital Management and Operations will serve as an organizational leader responsible for a wide range of critical work streams, including identifying top talent and on-boarding new staff members, benefits management and cost-analysis, and IWPR’s operating and personnel policies. A successful Associate Director will help to create a cooperative and high-performing organizational culture, and know how to manage and mitigate human resource legal risk while also advocating for human resource and talent-related systems and policies that support IWPR’s goal to be a diverse, inclusive, and anti-racist organization.

The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial, goal-oriented, and relationship-driven collaborative leader. They are also familiar with current non-profit human resource trends and laws, and have worked to solve personnel issues with expediency and discretion. They will also have excellent writing and communication skills.

This position is full-time and exempt, and based in Washington, DC.

Set Vision for and Drive Execution of Human Resource strategy, Policies, and Procedures

  • Ensure all Human Resource systems, processes, and policies embody IWPR’s goal to be a diverse, inclusive, and equitable organization
  • Oversee the execution of payroll and benefits administration
  • Develop compensation and benefits strategy and processes (including salary banding, annual calibration, total rewards/recognition, and titling framework) that consider both external market-based factors and internal equity so that IWPR can offer a robust value proposition that attracts and retains top talent
  • Design and execute leave processes, including FMLA, ADA, parental leave, etc.
  • Manage and help staff understand IWPR’s advancement philosophy and promotion process
  • Own the development and rollout/implementation of policies, benefits, and IWPR’s employee handbook
  • Ensure IWPR’s compliance with all state, federal, and local policies and laws

Provide Supervisors & Managers with Training, Materials, and Coaching around Human Resource Related Issues and Needs

  • Design and manage HR-related internal guidance and communications that proactively address the needs of IWPR’s employees and managers
  • Manage performance improvement plans and termination protocols, working side-by-side with managers to execute them, and collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer
  • Oversee employee relations and issues, providing consultation, facilitation, and resolution to others based on their proximity to the issue/team
  • Work with legal counsel to provide training and resources to managers to ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations
  • Identify and manage professional development opportunities for employees

Human Capital Management and Hiring

  • Manage talent recruitment, including writing position announcements, determining pay, and coordinating the hiring process with managers and supervisors;
  • Communicate new hire and promotion-related salary ranges to supervisors and managers, providing offer guidance and approving final offers
  • Oversee and manage the performance review process, and provide support to supervisors and managers
  • Manage and coordinate full staff retreats and team-building activities

Other Professional and Personal Qualities

  • Experience leading and managing Human Resource strategies for a scaling or mid-size organization, with knowledge about employment law;
  • You are a trusted advisor who people come to with the most complex Human Resource and people challenges;
  • Skilled at listening, learning, and creatively finding resolutions while maintaining the highest level of personal and professional integrity and maintaining confidential information;
  • Developed and implemented Human Resource policies, trainings, etc. with an eye for how they advance equity and are energized by thinking beyond legal requirements;
  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across the organization;
  • Ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines and multiple priorities;
  • Experience training and coaching others, including managers and senior leaders, on Human Resource practices and building strong relationships across diverse leadership styles; and
  • Experienced and confident giving and receiving direct feedback, including having difficult conversations and modeling IWPR’s values in all HR-related communications.

Ideal candidates may also demonstrate the following preferred qualifications:

  • You have SHRM or comparable HR certification
  • You bring experience working in different HR contexts, preferably with experience in the non-profit sector and/or in a mission-driven organization

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Preferred in human resource management, business administration or related field. At least 4 years in human resource management.

Salary

$75,000 to $85,000 and will be commensurate with experience. IWPR provides competitive salaries and a generous benefits package.
