The highlights: |
- Fifth best state for
women: Minnesota ranks in the top ten states for women's
political participation and women's employment and earnings. It tied
with Colorado and New Hampshire for the fifth best state for women in
the United States.
- High political
participation rating: Minnesota women's voter
registration and turnout are near the top for all states, at second
and third in the nation. However, Minnesota still has no women among its
congressional delegation, and less than a third of the state
legislature is made up of women. As a result, the state receives a
B on the political participation composite index.

The
problems: |
- Inadequate reproductive
rights: Only 43 percent of women in
Minnesota live in counties with an abortion provider. In addition,
Minnesota does not require sex education, an important resource for
teenage boys and girls. It ranked near the middle of all states, at 22nd
in the nation, and earned a C on the reproductive rights and
resources index.
