|Mary Sykes joined IWPR as Research and Program Coordinator in June 2015. Her academic and professional work includes researching and writing on various domestic and international topics such as poverty, neighborhood and social capital effects on criminal activity in America, the lack of women’s participation in STEM education and occupations, the unintended consequences of increased border security at the U.S.-Mexico border, and human rights issues such as the banning of the Islamic headscarf in French society. She has a Master of Arts in Sociology from the Catholic University of America where she concentrated on public policy and gender trends, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from James Madison University (Go Dukes!). Mary is from Chesapeake, Virginia and looks forward to contributing to the research team at IWPR!|
